River Springs Trails

River Springs Hiking and Nature Trails

This is the first land set aside for preservation and restoration for the public on the Red River, this will be the first among many destination points in this beautiful valley.

The Red River Basin, where the River Springs Trails is located supports at least 49 species of mammals, 28 species of fish, 13 species of amphibians, 43 species of reptiles, and 134 species of birds. In Western Oklahoma, the endangered bald eagle relies heavily on trees, such as cottonwoods, for perch and roost sites. The endangered whooping crane, piping plover, and interior least tern utilize the broad sandbars of major western Red River or salt flats for nesting, feeding, or roosting. Preserving and protecting this natural habitat will benefit the community for generations. How To Become A Partner?Contact Robert At: PH: 580-917-9218 support@riverspringstrails.org

The objective of the project is to restore the area and develop the River Springs Nature Walking and Hiking Trail on 20 acres of Red River sandy-soil, riverfront property in Cotton County.  This area includes a rugged, natural landscape with mixed grasses, shrubs, some trees, and a pond.  A walking trail will circle the pond and travel the length of available river access.  Parking, ADA compliant restroom facilities, trailside benches, and appropriate Signage will be constructed.  A trail 5 feet wide (allowing wheelchair access), and six-tenths of a mile in length will be constructed.  This is only the 3rd trail in Southwest Oklahoma; please review the attachment with this email. This trail will be the first of many Red River Trails in our long term plan that will not only preserve and conserve but to provide public access to this Great Natural and Historical resource of Oklahoma.
